Counterfeit stablecoin contract

counterfeit-stablecoin

Counterfeit stablecoin contract is a Leeri screening rule for TRON, ETH, BSC and Base that detects the following: A token contract whose own name or symbol imitates USDT or USDC and that is neither the issuer's contract nor a listed legitimate one on that chain. It is priced as a scam designation of the contract.

What it detects

A token contract whose own name or symbol imitates USDT or USDC and that is neither the issuer's contract nor a listed legitimate one on that chain. It is priced as a scam designation of the contract.

When it fires

The contract's on-chain symbol() or name() matches the published look-alike rule (the same letters after folding look-alike characters, one swapped pair, one doubled letter, or one edit of the full name) while its address is not a canonical claimant; a failed read makes the verdict partial instead.

What it means

The screened address is itself a token contract that poses as USDT or USDC. A real stablecoin is identified by the issuer's contract address, not by the token's name or symbol, which anyone can set, so tokens from this contract are not the stablecoin they imitate.

What to do

Do not treat funds in this token as stablecoin value, and compare the contract with the issuer's contract referenced in the finding where one exists on that chain.
